"His Little Lambs” is a registered non-profit organisation based on a farm in the Eston area. Fifteen years ago the McKenzie’s, who own the farm, had a timber felling business, where they employed about 40 African people from the surrounding rural areas. Unfortunately, a number of them passed away from HIV/AIDS related illnesses and their children were left with nowhere to go. The McKenzie’s took these children in and converted one of the houses and an out building on the farm into living quarters for these children. Over the years a number of children have either been "dumped" on the farm or have just found their way to "His Little Lambs". Of course, nobody is turned away.

The McKenzie’s originally started with four children; it has now increased to fifty two children!

There is a dire need to protect, nurture, educate and love these children. Since the start, the McKenzie’s funded the orphanage; however this is becoming an impossibility. It currently costs approx. R38 000 per month to keep "His Little Lambs" running. This includes: feeding the children, providing electricity & water, sending the children to school and paying salaries for house mothers to assist in looking after them. If ”His Little Lambs" does not source some sort of funding, all these children face losing the only place they know as home and the only family they have.

"His Little Lambs" does not receive any funding from Government, hence the need to source help in order to keep it running effectively. Sponsorship is desperately needed....

We are hoping to acquire outside funding to build a new home that can provide a safer and more hygienic environment for our children. We are always striving to improve the living conditions of our children and that they can have a home to be proud of.  It has become a difficult situation as our children are living in a three bedroom house, where there is insufficient sanitation and the children are sleeping five to a bed.  There is not enough cupboard space or privacy for our teenagers.  The boys and girls are living together as there is also not enough room to separate them.

We have had a quotation of R400 000.00, to build a hostel to house twenty three of our boys including our house mothers, this also includes a recreational area where our children can play and do their daily activities. They are very fond of putting on plays and singing and dancing for us.  We have enough land to provide for this additional “home”.

We endeavour to give each child a gift at Christmas time.  Here are some ideas to fill their box:

Pencil crayons, colouring books, toothbrushes, soap, dolls, cars, treats, notebooks, puzzles, soccer balls….any toys/stationery.  Yes we collect all year through in order to hopefully have enough come Christmas time.

We believe, children should participate in sporting activities and we try to encourage this wherever possible.

Our wish is to have a twenty seater bus to transport our children on outings, to take them to school, sporting events and to Church. Our boys are very enthusiastic soccer players, who play in the rural soccer league. We currently use two LDV’s to transport our children, which is not appropriate.  We had a quotation for a 2nd Hand Toyota Bus at R250 000.00.

Some of our children are avid off-road bicycle riders so we would love to reward them with decent bicycles and clothing to participate in various off-road competitions.

Soccer equipment is always on the cards as well as jungle gyms / trampolines for the young children.
